Lutton St Nicholas Primary Academy

Safeguarding Information

At Lutton St Nicholas Primary Academy, we are committed to providing children with a safe place in which to learn. The health, safety and well-being of every child is our top priority and so safeguarding is at the heart of what we do.

All staff, governors and volunteers share this commitment to safeguarding and understand that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff, governors and volunteers receive regular training in safeguarding and know how to spot signs of abuse. They are aware of the pathways for reporting concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and know that they must always act promptly and in the interests of the child when they have concerns about a child’s welfare.

Children are frequently and regularly taught about ways to keep themselves safe, including online. They know that there are adults in the school whom they can approach if they are worried, and they know where to find them.

To meet the needs of children and their families, we work in partnership with other agencies through the Early Help protocol and have an important role in inter-agency safeguarding arrangements as set in the Working Together to Safeguard Children and Keeping Children Safe in Education documents.

Early Support

Children and families may need extra support at different times in their lives. Team Around the Child (TAC) is a group of people who want the best for the child or young person who will work together in an open and honest way to create a plan of support.

TAC starts when a worry is raised about a child or young person and coordinated support is required.

A Lead Professional - and in our school that would be Mrs Butler - completes an Early Help Child and Family Assessment. This is so that the right support can be found for the child, young person and their family.

Anti-bullying

Bullying is usually defined as repeated behaviour which is intended to hurt someone either emotionally or physically, and is often aimed at certain people because of their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation or any other aspect such as appearance or disability and can take many forms, including:

At our academy, we take a zero tolerance approach to bullying. If you or your child are concerned about bullying in school, please bring it to the attention of your child’s class teacher as soon as possible. They are usually best placed work together with your child to put a swift end to any problems.

If a teacher has not been able to put an end to the problem, or has any concerns, they will bring it to the attention of the Safeguarding Team who may be able to provide further help or support. Our school policy contains further information on how we deal with bullying in our school.

Year 6 Online Safety Assembly

Normally the adults take charge of providing information on events and news about how to keep our children safe. Last week however, we had some very dedicated Year 6s take over and they did a phenomenal job. Our Year 6 team created a presentation on how to stay safe based on learning they have done in class and some further study in their own time. They were so committed to the cause that they designed their own mascot to go with it! We will be placing a copy of their work on the website after it has finished undergoing alterations so watch out! For now, we've placed a copy of their very thorough work below for your to read.

Thank you Minnie, Frasier, Olly and Isla for your hard work and confidence in delivering a whole school assembly!
